Iplivecams’s current offerings are small and svelte compared to most other monitoring cameras. The Iplivecams and Iplivecams Echo both get the job done in a nice small package.
But since we’re operating in a consumer home setting most of the time, guess what one of our top requests is? It’s the ability to turn off the camera and make sure it’s off. There are a few ways to do this, but the lens itself makes some folks uncomfortable. The simplest answer is to put a cloth or cup over the camera and you’ll be okay. We’re looking into some sort of hard lens cover that will become part of the Iplivecams housing.
It looks like this idea is spreading to bigger security cameras as well. According to Security Systems News, Brookline, MA, is installing cameras that have lens covers that are enabled between 6am and 10pm.
Software takes care of this but psychologically humans want a visible indicator. We’ll see if a cheap piece of plastic helps people feel more comfortable.
