History

Sunny Isles Beach is a city located in Miami-Dade County, Florida, along the Atlantic Ocean. The history of Sunny Isles Beach dates back to the early 20th century when a private investor named Harvey Baker Graves purchased the land in 1920. He planned to develop it as a tourist resort and named it "Sunny Isles" to reflect its sunny climate and beautiful beaches.

However, the Great Depression and subsequent hurricanes halted the development plans, and the land remained largely undeveloped until the 1950s. In the 1950s, a bridge was built connecting the area to the mainland, and the city began to attract attention from developers and investors. The Haulover Bridge, completed in 1959, further improved access to Sunny Isles.

In 1957, a local businessman named Norman S. Edelcup purchased a large portion of the land and began developing it as the "Sunny Isles Beach" resort. Edelcup constructed the first two high-rise buildings in the area, which set the precedent for the city's future development. The area quickly gained popularity as a vacation destination, known for its pristine beaches and waterfront properties.

Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Sunny Isles Beach experienced rapid growth as more luxury hotels, condominiums, and resorts were constructed. It became a popular destination for tourists, attracting visitors from around the world. The city continued to evolve and transform its skyline with modern architectural designs and luxurious developments.

In the 1990s, Sunny Isles Beach faced some economic challenges, but by the early 2000s, a new wave of development and revitalization took place. Numerous old motels and low-rise buildings were demolished to make way for new luxury high-rise condominiums, transforming the city's skyline once again. Many renowned architects and designers contributed to the city's new developments, attracting affluent residents and visitors.
