Brunswick County History

Brunswick County is a historic county located in the southeastern region of the state of North Carolina in the United States. The county was formed in 1764 from parts of Bladen and New Hanover counties and was named after the royal house of Brunswick-Lüneburg in Germany.

During the colonial period, Brunswick County was an important center for trade and commerce due to its location on the Cape Fear River. It was also the site of significant military activity during the Revolutionary War, with several key battles taking place in the area.

After the war, Brunswick County continued to grow and develop as a center for agriculture, fishing, and shipping. In the mid-1800s, the county experienced a boom in the timber industry, which fueled the growth of several small towns in the area.
