History
Bács-Kiskun County is a region located in southern Hungary. While it is not directly related to the town of Baja, which is situated in the county, Baja itself has a rich history.
Baja is a town with a history dating back over 700 years. It is located on the banks of the Danube River, which has played a significant role in the town's development. Here are some key points in the history of Baja:
Medieval Period (13th-15th centuries): Baja was founded in the 14th century, and it was originally part of the Kingdom of Hungary. It began as a small settlement and grew over time.
Ottoman Era (16th-17th centuries): Like much of Hungary, Baja was under Ottoman control for a period of time. The Ottomans captured the town in 1541 and held it until 1686, when it was liberated by Habsburg forces during the Great Turkish War.
Habsburg Rule and Austro-Hungarian Empire (18th-19th centuries): After the expulsion of the Ottomans, Baja became part of the Habsburg Monarchy. The town continued to grow and develop during this period.
20th Century: Baja played a role in both World Wars. In World War I, it was located near the front lines, and during World War II, it was occupied by German forces. After the war, it was returned to Hungarian control.
