The boll weevil, a destructive pest that infests cotton crops, caused widespread damage to the cotton industry in the early 20th century. In 1915, the boll weevil reached Enterprise, devastating the cotton crops and threatening the livelihoods of many farmers. In response to this crisis, the farmers of Enterprise decided to diversify their crops and turn to other agricultural pursuits.
