History

The Bretton Woods Ski Area is a popular ski resort located in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, USA. Its history is closely tied to the development of the Mount Washington Hotel and the surrounding area. Here's an overview of its history:

Early 20th Century: The Mount Washington Hotel was constructed in 1902 by Joseph Stickney. This grand hotel was built to cater to the wealthy elite and provide them with a luxurious retreat in the scenic White Mountains.

1930s: As interest in winter sports grew, the hotel's management recognized the potential for a ski area in the vicinity. In 1937, they established the Bretton Woods Ski Area on the slopes adjacent to the hotel. The initial ski terrain was modest, catering to beginners and families.

World War II Era: The ski area was largely limited in its growth during World War II due to resource constraints. However, the Mount Washington Hotel gained international attention in 1944 when it hosted the Bretton Woods Conference, which led to the establishment of the Bretton Woods Agreement. This agreement laid the foundation for the post-war global economic system.
