They used the land for hunting and gathering before European settlers arrived. Exploration and Settlement: In the late 19th century, explorers and prospectors arrived in the area in search of gold, silver, and other valuable minerals. In 1874, a group of prospectors discovered rich silver ore in the mountains nearby, leading to a silver boom. As a result, the town of Granby was founded in 1904 and named after Granby Hillyer, a Denver attorney.
