History

For centuries, the Chattahoochee River has flowed gracefully past Azalea Park, serving as both a natural resource and a silent witness to the layered history of the region. Long before modern development, indigenous peoples, particularly the Creek and Muscogee nations, revered the river as a lifeline. They depended on its abundant waters for fishing, transportation, and spiritual rituals. Early Native American trails followed the river’s winding course, and remnants of these ancient pathways have been discovered near Azalea Park, hinting at a past rich with tradition and reverence for nature.
