Mecklenburg County History

Mecklenburg County is a county located in the southern Piedmont region of the state of Virginia, in the United States. The area was first inhabited by Native American tribes, including the Occaneechi and the Saponi, prior to the arrival of European settlers.

The county was officially established in 1765, and was named after Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, the wife of King George III of England. The county played an important role in the American Revolution, with several key battles and skirmishes fought in the area. One of the most notable battles was the Battle of Brandywine, which took place in 1777 and saw the Continental Army under George Washington clash with British forces.
