History

Corydon is a small community located in Henderson County, Kentucky, United States. The history of Corydon dates back to the early 1800s when it was founded by a man named John James, who settled in the area in 1805.

Corydon was originally called "James Town" after its founder, but the name was later changed to Corydon in honor of a town in Indiana. The town grew quickly due to its location on the Green River and became an important shipping point for goods being transported down the river.

In the early 1830s, Corydon became the county seat of Henderson County, which helped to further boost its growth and importance. The town continued to prosper throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries, with the construction of a number of important buildings, including a courthouse, post office, and several churches.

In the early 20th century, the discovery of oil in the area led to a boom in the local economy, and Corydon became a hub for the oil industry. However, the town's prosperity was short-lived, and by the mid-20th century, the oil industry had declined, leaving the town struggling economically.
