Crowborough History

Crowborough is a town located in the Wealden district of East Sussex, England. The town has a rich history that dates back to the Stone Age, with evidence of human habitation in the area dating back to around 3000 BCE.

During the Roman period, the area was known as "Cerne" and was a major center for iron production. In the 9th century, the area was part of the kingdom of Sussex, and in the 11th century, it was part of the estates of the Archbishop of Canterbury.

During the medieval period, the area was known for its agriculture and forestry, with the Wealden forests providing a source of timber and game for the local population. In the 16th century, the area was part of the estates of the Sackville family, who were major landowners in the area.
