History

Deerfield Beach is a city located in Broward County, Florida, in the southeastern United States. The area that is now Deerfield Beach was originally inhabited by the Tequesta and later the Seminole Native American tribes. In the late 19th century, a small settlement began to form in the area around what is now Hillsboro Boulevard, with the arrival of the Florida East Coast Railway in 1896.

The settlement was originally known as Hillsborough, but was renamed Deerfield in 1898, after the nearby Deerfield River. The town grew slowly in its early years, with agriculture and fishing as the main industries.
