Alameda Live Cam

Alameda is a city located in Alameda County, California. The area that is now Alameda was originally a peninsula connected to Oakland, but it was later separated by a canal in the 19th century. The name "Alameda" means "grove of poplar trees" in Spanish.

The Ohlone people were the original inhabitants of the area. In 1772, the Spanish arrived and established the San Francisco Bay Area's first mission in nearby Fremont. The area was later part of Mexico before becoming part of the United States in 1846.

During the Gold Rush, Alameda became a popular spot for immigrants and prospectors, and it quickly grew into a thriving city. The city's port became an important hub for shipping and transportation in the region.

In 1872, the first transcontinental railroad was completed, and Alameda became a major stop on the route. The city also saw significant growth during World War II, as it was home to a large Naval Air Station.
