Great South Bay
The Great South Bay is a large body of water located on the South Shore of Long Island, New York. It spans approximately 45 miles (72 kilometers) along the coast and covers an area of approximately 151 square miles (391 square kilometers). The bay is an important ecological and recreational resource for the region, and is home to a diverse array of wildlife and habitats.
The Great South Bay is a shallow estuary that is fed by several major rivers and smaller tributaries, including the Carmans River, the Connetquot River, and the Patchogue River. The bay is also connected to the Atlantic Ocean via Fire Island Inlet, a narrow channel that separates Fire Island from the mainland.
