Forest Park History

Forest Park is a public park located in St. Louis, Missouri. It covers an area of over 1,300 acres and is one of the largest urban parks in the United States. The park is home to several attractions and landmarks, including the Saint Louis Art Museum, the Missouri History Museum, the Saint Louis Zoo, and the Saint Louis Science Center.

The history of Forest Park dates back to the early 20th century. The park was originally created as the site of the 1904 World's Fair, also known as the Louisiana Purchase Exposition. The fair was held to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Louisiana Purchase, which had made St. Louis a gateway to the West.

After the World's Fair ended, Forest Park became a public park, and many of the fair's buildings were repurposed for other uses. The Saint Louis Art Museum, for example, was originally the Palace of Fine Arts, one of the main exhibition halls at the fair. The Missouri History Museum was originally the Palace of Mines and Metallurgy.

Over the years, Forest Park has been a popular destination for St. Louis residents and visitors alike. The park has undergone several renovations and improvements, including the addition of new attractions and the restoration of historic buildings. In recent years, the park has also become a center for outdoor recreation, with miles of trails for walking, running, and biking.
