History

Gourette Ski Resort is located in the Eaux-Bonnes commune in the Pyrenees mountains of southwestern France. Nestled in the heart of the Ossau Valley, Gourette is a popular destination for winter sports enthusiasts. Here's a brief overview of its history:

  • Origins: The development of Gourette as a ski resort began in the early 20th century. In 1930, a group of local ski enthusiasts formed the Pyrenean Sports Club (Club des Sports Pyrénéens) and started promoting skiing in the region. They recognized the potential of Gourette, a small farming village, for winter sports due to its favorable terrain and natural beauty.
  • Ski lifts and facilities: In 1948, the first ski lift, a simple rope tow, was installed in Gourette. This opened up the area for skiing and attracted more visitors. Over the years, additional ski lifts and facilities were added, including chairlifts and gondolas, to accommodate the growing number of skiers.
