An international airport that serves the Las Vegas Valley

History

McCarran International Airport is the primary commercial airport serving the Las Vegas Valley in the United States. Here's a brief overview of its history:

Origin and Early Years:McCarran International Airport was originally established in 1942 as Alamo Airport, named after the local Alamo Gun Club. It was initially a small airfield used by the U.S. Army during World War II for gunnery training. After the war, the airport was transferred to Clark County and used for both military and civil aviation purposes.

Renaming to McCarran:In 1948, the airport was renamed McCarran Field in honor of U.S. Senator Pat McCarran, a key figure in aviation legislation. McCarran played a significant role in the development of aviation policies during the mid-20th century.

Commercial Expansion:Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, McCarran experienced significant growth in commercial aviation. The airport's facilities were expanded to accommodate the increasing number of passengers visiting Las Vegas. The original terminal, now known as Terminal 1, opened in 1963.
