South Lake Tahoe History
South Lake Tahoe is located on the southern shore of Lake Tahoe, which is the second deepest lake in the United States and one of the largest alpine lakes in the world. The area has a rich and diverse history that spans thousands of years.
The Washoe people, a Native American tribe, were the first inhabitants of the area. They called the lake "Da ow a ga," which translates to "edge of the lake." The Washoe people lived off the land, hunting, fishing, and gathering wild plants and berries.
