Holden Beach History Holden Beach is a seaside town located in Brunswick County, North Carolina, United States. The town is situated on a barrier island that lies between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway. Holden Beach has a rich history that dates back to the early 18th century when the island was inhabited by Native American tribes. The island remained largely untouched until the 1920s when the Holden family, who owned most of the land, began to develop it for residential use. The family built a small bridge to the island and opened a ferry service to transport people and supplies to and from the mainland.
