In the early 1900s, the land that is now Hollywood Beach was owned by Joseph Young, a businessman from California. He envisioned the area as a tourist destination and began to develop it with the help of his company, the Hollywood Land and Water Company. Young's plan was to create a city that would rival Hollywood, California, which was the center of the movie industry at the time. In 1920, Young began to build the Hollywood Beach Hotel, which was the centerpiece of his new city. The hotel was a massive structure with over 300 rooms and was designed to be the most luxurious hotel in Florida. It quickly became a popular destination for wealthy tourists, and many celebrities stayed there, including Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, and Bob Hope.
