Espinho History

Espinho is a city located in the Aveiro District in Portugal. Its history dates back to prehistoric times, as evidenced by the discovery of archaeological sites such as the Mamoa de Paramos, a megalithic tomb from the Chalcolithic period.

During the Roman occupation, Espinho was an important center for the production of salt, which was extracted from the nearby salt pans. The city's name comes from the Latin "spinus," which means thorn, and is believed to refer to the pine trees that once covered the area.
