History of Hotel Levi Panorama

The origins of Hotel Levi Panorama trace back to the early 1970s when Finland’s burgeoning winter tourism began to draw international attention. Conceived as part of the larger Levi ski resort master plan, the hotel opened its doors in 1974, offering panoramic vistas of the fells (“tunturi”) and the pristine boreal forests of Finnish Lapland. The architectural design, influenced by Scandinavian modernism, emphasized natural materials such as locally milled pine and spruce, stone foundations, and floor-to-ceiling windows to maximize the view of the fabled Levi fell.

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Hotel Levi Panorama underwent a series of expansions and refurbishments to accommodate growing demand from alpine skiers, cross-country ski enthusiasts, and summer hikers. In 1988, the hotel opened its legendary Panorama Bar—an elevated lounge encircled by glass that became a popular spot for watching the Northern Lights as well as enjoying midnight sun panoramas. By 1995, the property added a dedicated wellness wing, complete with traditional Finnish sauna suites, thermal pools heated by geothermal pumps, and treatment rooms offering Arctic aromatherapy.
