History & Context

History Polańczyk is a small town located in southeastern Poland, in the Subcarpathian Voivodeship. It is situated on the western shore of Lake Solina, which is one of the largest artificial lakes in Poland. The history of Polańczyk is closely tied to the development of the Solina Dam and the creation of the lake itself. Prior to the construction of the dam, the area around Polańczyk was primarily agricultural, with small villages and fields. In the 1960s, the decision was made to build a hydroelectric power plant on the San River, which resulted in the formation of Lake Solina. The dam was completed in 1968, and the rising waters of the lake submerged several villages and changed the landscape significantly.
