It is one of the most prominent and popular mountain destinations in Serbia, known for its natural beauty, diverse flora and fauna, and recreational opportunities. The history of Kopaonik is rich and spans over various periods: Ancient Times: The Kopaonik region has been inhabited for thousands of years. Archaeological findings suggest that it was inhabited by various ancient civilizations, including the Thracians, Illyrians, and Celts. Traces of ancient settlements, as well as Roman roads and fortifications, have been discovered in the area. Medieval Period: During the Middle Ages, Kopaonik was an important strategic region. It was part of the medieval Serbian state, and numerous monasteries were built in the vicinity. The most famous among them is the Studenica Monastery, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site and lies not far from the mountain.
