History

The Korean War Memorial in Evansville, Indiana is called the "Korean War Memorial Foundation of Vanderburgh County" and it is located in Sunset Memorial Park. The foundation was established in 1992 by a group of local veterans to honor those who served and died in the Korean War. The memorial was dedicated on October 9, 1993.

The memorial is a black granite wall that stands 10 feet tall and 16 feet wide. The wall features the names of 79 soldiers from Vanderburgh County who lost their lives in the Korean War. In front of the wall, there are six large granite tablets that list the names of all the units that served in Korea, including Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard.

The memorial also includes a bronze plaque that lists the names of the foundation's members, as well as a flagpole that flies the American flag and the POW/MIA flag. The foundation holds an annual ceremony at the memorial on the Saturday closest to the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice Agreement on July 27th, 1953, to honor the veterans and remember the sacrifices made during the Korean War.
