History
Mission Bay is a picturesque aquatic playground located in San Diego, California. It has a rich history that spans centuries, from its indigenous inhabitants to its current status as a popular recreational area. Here's an overview of Mission Bay's history:
Native Inhabitants: Prior to European colonization, the area around Mission Bay was inhabited by Native American communities, including the Kumeyaay people. They had a deep connection to the land and waterways, relying on the bay's resources for sustenance and cultural practices.
Spanish Colonization: In the 18th century, Spanish explorers and missionaries arrived in the region. The Spanish established a number of missions and presidios (military forts) throughout California, including the nearby Mission San Diego de Alcalá. However, Mission Bay itself was largely undeveloped and used for grazing livestock.
