Mineral Springs Era: The town's history is closely tied to the discovery of mineral springs in the mid-19th century. In 1822, a hunter named John McLure found a natural spring while pursuing a wounded deer. The spring was named Cambridge Spring after McLure's hometown in Massachusetts. It was believed that the mineral water had health benefits, attracting visitors seeking therapeutic treatments.
