History
Międzyzdroje is a popular seaside resort town located on the northern coast of Poland, on the island of Wolin in the Baltic Sea. The town has a rich history that dates back centuries.
The area around Międzyzdroje has been inhabited since prehistoric times. During the Middle Ages, it was part of the Duchy of Pomerania and later came under the control of the Kingdom of Prussia. In the late 19th century, the region started gaining popularity as a tourist destination due to its beautiful sandy beaches and picturesque landscapes.
Międzyzdroje's transformation into a modern seaside resort began in the early 20th century. The opening of a railway line in 1898 made the town more accessible and attracted more visitors. In 1927, Międzyzdroje officially became a spa town, known for its therapeutic brine and iodine-rich sea air, which were believed to have health benefits.
During the interwar period, Międzyzdroje experienced significant development, with the construction of elegant villas, hotels, and entertainment facilities. The town became a popular destination for artists, intellectuals, and wealthy individuals. It was often referred to as the "Pearl of the Baltic."
