History
New Albany is a city located in the southern part of the state of Indiana, in the United States. The city has a rich history dating back to the early 19th century.
New Albany was first settled in 1813 by Joel, Nathaniel and Abner Scribner, who were brothers from New York. The Scribner brothers built a cabin near the Ohio River and started a ferry service across the river, which quickly became popular among travelers and settlers.
In 1817, New Albany was officially founded and named after the capital of the state of New York, Albany. The town grew rapidly in the early 19th century due to its strategic location on the Ohio River, which made it a hub for trade and commerce.
