History

The roots of South Ponte Vedra Beach stretch back to the early days of Florida’s coastal settlement, when the region was inhabited by the Timucuan people who thrived on the abundant marine life and fertile coastal lands. Evidence of these early Native American communities is still visible in the local lore and archaeological findings scattered along the shoreline. Over time, the area evolved as Spanish explorers arrived in the 16th century, leaving behind traces of their influence in the form of old maps and artifacts that highlight the region’s strategic coastal importance.
