History

Paristown is a neighborhood located just east of downtown Louisville, Kentucky. The area was originally settled in the early 1800s and was named after Paris, France, due to its cosmopolitan feel.

During the 19th century, Paristown was a thriving industrial area with factories and warehouses producing everything from soap to whiskey. The neighborhood was home to a large German immigrant population who worked in these industries.

In the early 20th century, Paristown began to decline as many of the factories closed down or moved to other areas. The neighborhood became known for its poverty and crime, and it fell into disrepair.

In the 1980s and 1990s, a group of residents and business owners began working to revitalize the neighborhood. They formed the Paristown Pointe Preservation Trust and began restoring many of the historic buildings in the area.

Today, Paristown is a thriving neighborhood with a mix of residential and commercial properties. The neighborhood is home to several popular attractions, including the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts, the Louisville Zoo, and the Louisville Mega Cavern. In addition, Paristown is known for its many restaurants, shops, and art galleries.
