History

Skaha Lake is a freshwater lake located in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia, Canada. The lake has a long and fascinating history, dating back to the pre-colonial era when it was inhabited by the Syilx First Nations people.

The Syilx people used the lake for fishing, hunting, and gathering, and also had a spiritual connection to the lake. The name "Skaha" is derived from the Syilx word "skaha'k'apxw," which means "red-winged blackbird."

In the late 1800s, European settlers began to arrive in the area and established orchards and vineyards along the shores of the lake. The lake also became a popular destination for recreation, with resorts and campsites springing up around its shores.

During World War II, Skaha Lake was used by the Canadian military for training purposes, and a military base was established near the town of Penticton, which is located on the lake's eastern shore.
