Early History: The Canary Islands, including Gran Canaria, were inhabited by indigenous people known as the Guanches long before European colonization. These indigenous people lived a simple life and had a unique culture and language. In the 15th century, Spanish explorers arrived on the islands and began to conquer and colonize them.
