History

Washougal is a city located in Clark County, Washington, in the United States. The area has a rich history that dates back thousands of years to when the first Indigenous peoples settled in the region.

The Washougal area was originally inhabited by the Chinookan people, who were part of the larger Chinook Nation. The Chinookans lived off the land, hunting and gathering food and resources from the Columbia River and surrounding forests.

In the early 1800s, European explorers and fur traders began to visit the Washougal area, establishing trading posts and settlements. The Hudson's Bay Company, a major fur trading company, established Fort Vancouver in 1824, just a few miles south of Washougal.
