Rehoboth Beach History Rehoboth Beach is a coastal town located in the state of Delaware, United States. It has a rich history dating back to the 19th century when it was established as a Methodist campsite. Here's a brief overview of the history of Rehoboth Beach: The name "Rehoboth" comes from the Bible, which means "broad places." The name was suggested by the founders of the town who believed that the beach and surrounding area had a broad expanse of land. In 1873, the Rehoboth Beach Camp Meeting Association was established as a religious retreat for Methodists. It was originally located on land leased from the owners of a nearby farm. In 1879, the first boardwalk was built in Rehoboth Beach. It was made of wooden planks and extended 1,500 feet along the beach. In the early 20th century, Rehoboth Beach began to grow as a popular tourist destination. Hotels and restaurants were built to accommodate the influx of visitors. In 1937, the town was officially incorporated as a municipality.
