The Upper Carniolan region of northwestern Slovenia
History
Lake Bled, located in the Julian Alps of Slovenia, has a rich history dating back centuries. Here's an overview of its historical significance and key events:
Prehistoric Settlements: Archaeological evidence suggests that the area around Lake Bled was inhabited by prehistoric people as far back as the Bronze Age (around 2000 BC). Traces of these early settlements have been found on the lake's shores and nearby hills.
Medieval Period: In the early medieval period, Lake Bled and its surroundings were part of the Slavic principality of Carantania. In the 11th century, Bled Castle (Blejski Grad) was built on a hill overlooking the lake. The castle has played a significant role in the region's history and is one of the oldest castles in Slovenia.
