The town's history dates back to the early 1900s when Dr. Lucius B. Morse, a physician from Missouri, and his brother Hiram, a lawyer, visited the area and fell in love with its natural beauty. In 1902, Dr. Morse purchased 64 acres of land around what is now Lake Lure and began developing the area .
