Mustang Island is a barrier island located along the Gulf Coast of Texas, USA. It has a rich history dating back thousands of years, with indigenous peoples like the Karankawa and Coahuiltecan tribes residing in the region long before European exploration and settlement.

Native American Presence: Prior to European contact, Native American tribes inhabited the area, relying on the bountiful coastal resources for their livelihoods. They engaged in fishing, hunting, and gathering to sustain their communities.

Spanish Exploration: Spanish explorers, including Alonso Álvarez de Pineda, were among the first Europeans to explore the Gulf Coast of Texas in the early 16th century. However, permanent Spanish settlement didn't occur on Mustang Island.
