The bussiest destination in the Vialattea ski resort

History

Sestriere is a ski resort town located in the Piedmont region of Italy, in the western Alps. It is situated at an altitude of about 2,035 meters (6,676 feet) above sea level. The history of Sestriere is closely tied to the development of skiing and winter sports in the Italian Alps.

Sestriere was originally a small mountain village, primarily known for its pastoral and agricultural activities. In the early 1930s, the area gained prominence when it was chosen as the site for the construction of a ski resort by the Italian government under the direction of Giovanni Agnelli, the founder of the Fiat automobile company.

The resort was designed to be a state-of-the-art destination for winter sports enthusiasts. It was one of the first purpose-built ski resorts in the world and quickly became popular among both Italian and international skiers. The development of Sestriere played a significant role in popularizing skiing in Italy and contributing to the growth of the winter tourism industry in the region.
