The story begins on May 13, 1917, when three young shepherd children, Lucia dos Santos and her cousins Francisco and Jacinta Marto, claimed to have seen a lady dressed in white in a small oak tree while they were tending their sheep. The lady reportedly told the children to return to the same spot on the 13th day of each month for the next six months, during which she would reveal herself further.
