Beckenham History

Beckenham is a town in the London Borough of Bromley, located in the southeast of England. It has a rich history that dates back to the Anglo-Saxon era.

The name "Beckenham" is thought to have originated from the Old English words "bec" and "ham," which mean "stream in a bend" and "homestead," respectively. This refers to the River Beck, which flows through the town.

In the 11th century, Beckenham was part of the Manor of Lewisham, which was owned by the Bishop of Bayeux, the half-brother of William the Conqueror. It was later owned by various lords and nobles, including the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Earls of Gloucester.
