St Felix Public Beach Live Cam

An extraordinary beauty at the Savanne district in the south of Mauritius Island

History

St Felix Public Beach, located in the southern region of Mauritius near the luxurious Shanti Maurice Resort, is a coastal gem that carries a rich historical and cultural legacy. This area, with its pristine landscapes and turquoise waters, has long been cherished by locals and visitors alike, playing an integral role in the island's history as a key part of its natural and cultural heritage.

The history of St Felix and its surrounding areas is deeply intertwined with Mauritius’ colonial past. During the Dutch, French, and British colonial eras, this region was pivotal for agriculture and trade, with sugarcane plantations sprawling across the landscape. The fertile soils and temperate climate of southern Mauritius made it an ideal location for cultivating sugarcane, which became the island's primary export for centuries. The nearby village of St Felix was among the settlements that supported these plantations, providing housing and resources for workers, many of whom were brought to Mauritius from Africa, India, and China.
