Velsen-Noord History Velsen-Noord is a town in the Dutch province of North Holland, situated on the North Sea coast. The town has a rich history dating back to prehistoric times. During the Roman period, Velsen-Noord was an important trading center. The Romans built a fortification in the area to protect their trade routes along the North Sea coast. The remains of this fortification can still be seen today in the form of the reconstructed Fort Velsen. In the Middle Ages, Velsen-Noord was an important center for salt production. The town's location on the coast made it ideal for the production of salt, which was an important commodity at the time. The salt was produced by evaporating seawater in large pans, which were heated by burning peat.
