History
Tannum Sands is a coastal town located in the Gladstone Region of Queensland, Australia. The history of Tannum Sands dates back to the early 20th century when the area was primarily used for grazing and farming. It was named after a pastoral run called "Tannum Station" which was established in the late 1800s.
In the 1950s, the area started to attract attention due to its picturesque beaches and natural beauty. It was around this time that the development of Tannum Sands as a tourist destination began. The construction of holiday homes and the establishment of camping areas attracted visitors from nearby towns and cities, particularly during the summer months.
The 1960s and 1970s saw further growth and development in Tannum Sands. The construction of the Boyne Island Aluminum Smelter in the nearby town of Boyne Island brought an influx of workers and their families to the area, leading to an increase in population. As a result, more amenities and facilities were built to cater to the growing community.
