The history of West Knoxville dates back to the early 19th century when the area was primarily rural farmland. The first settlers in the area were primarily farmers and homesteaders, with many of them coming from Virginia and North Carolina. In the mid-1800s, the railroad came to the area, and West Knoxville began to grow as a hub for shipping and commerce. The community became known as Concord, named after the nearby Concord Fort, which was a fortification during the Civil War.
