Pagosa Springs is a small town located in southwestern Colorado, in the United States. The town is situated in the San Juan River valley, surrounded by the San Juan Mountains. The area has a rich history, dating back to ancient times when it was inhabited by various indigenous peoples.

The Ute Indians were the first known inhabitants of the area, and they used the hot springs that are now famous in Pagosa Springs for their healing properties. The Utes called the hot springs "Pah gosah," which means "healing waters." The area remained largely untouched until the mid-1800s when settlers began to arrive.
