History
The Xagħra Parish Church, located in the picturesque village of Xagħra on the island of Gozo, Malta, stands as a testament to centuries of faith, artistry, and cultural heritage. Officially known as the Basilica of the Nativity of Our Lady, this magnificent church is a centerpiece of Gozo’s religious and architectural history. Its story begins in the 17th century, when Xagħra, a growing settlement in Gozo, sought its own parish to serve the spiritual needs of its community. At the time, the village was under the jurisdiction of the nearby parish of Nadur, but as Xagħra expanded, the construction of a dedicated parish church became inevitable.
