The effect of the clubs and societies - Saas-Fee has turned into a world-famous ski resort during the past decades. Tourism absorbs the strength of the entire village population to a large extent. And still the big world cannot crush the small world. Through a fine-meshed net, the community with its approximately 1250 inhabitants is kept together, connected by 36 flourishing clubs and societies which run through the entire structure like blood vessels, establishing contacts among the population, maintaining and strengthening the feeling of solidarity despite all hectic states, and having a magical effect in the international resort through their activities.
Carl Zuckmayer - This famous playwrighter originally came from Nackenheim in Germany. He was a Rhine-Franconian, a typical son of one of Germany's most colourful regions. Now Saas-Fee is quite a different world. Yet it attracted him, captivating and enthralling him already on the occasion of his first visit in 1938, and it never let go of him: the mountains, the glaciers, the forests, the tranquility of the landscape, the vilage, and later on - after his return from America - particularly the hamlet of "Wildi" in the northern part of the community where in 1957 his wife after a long search found The "most beautiful house" that was for sale. The special atmosphere of the wooden house fascinated him. He mentioned voices which could be heard in the house. "I hear them talking, in winter nights when the wood crackles and sighs, calls and whispers. These are the voices which go on talking when our own voices are no longer heard. They appease my dreams, they fill me with tranquility and confidence."
He truly needed such tranquility in order to write his last great works, particularly his glittering life's work "Als wär's ein Stück von mir", in order to exchange letters with Karl Barth, the great theologian of the Reformed Church, at a high level, marked by "late friendship". Curiosity had captivated him until his death. Thus the fence around his property was the magically drawn ring, an external sign that his spirit sought composure and calmness behind it.
On January 18, 1977 Carl Zuckmayer died. He was buried in Saas-Fee. Amid the graves of the villagers one can find the grave of Carl Zuckmayer and his wife Alice. It is a simple grave, with a polite reference to the others around it.
The Saas Museum - Owned by the community of Saas-Fee. Initiator Werner Imseng. The typical Valaisian house forms an ideal framework for the historical museum. Having stepped inside, one experiences the warm wood of the larch walls, the rooms and chambers with the low ceilings and the narrow hallways which seem to invite visitors in a magical way to proceed ever further and to climb the stairs. The house has a great variety of exhibits (2190 objects) from the sectors lifestyle, customs and traditions, craft, clothing, glaciology and mineralogy. A spectacular piece is the originally reproduced, Spartanically furnished study room of Carl Zuckmayer.
The Tourist Office - Each year, the Tourist Office endeavours to offer to visitors a wide spectrum of cultural events. With classical concerts in the parish church and rock concerts at the recreation center the Tourist Office tries to fulfill the wishes of visitors. International stars form the music scene such as Ivan Rebroff or the legendary Golden Gate Quartet have created unforgettable musical memories for many a listener in the midst of the magnificent mountain world.

The Ice Pavilion is open to visitors daily during the Summer and the winter seasons. Being the world's biggest ice cavern, the Ice Pavilion of Saas-Fee has a dimension of 5’000 m3. The integrated crevasse (on the left, marked with a dotted line on the plan below) has the dimension of 3'750 m3.

This generous panorama expands still further to the Graubünden Alps. On a particularly clear day, visitors will even be able to see the plains of the River Po in Italy.
Gorge Alpin - A very special kind of adventure can be enjoyed in the passage through a gorge between Saas-Fee and Saas-Grund. The so-called Alpine Gorge is a route amidst the elements of air, water and rock, a safe adventure without any contact with the water, and is, in fact a “Klettersteig”, (a dynamic secured climbing route) with numerous spectacular highlights. The route begins in a leisurely fashion. The first steel cables are ideal for getting to know how to use the “Klettersteig” equipment. And then things really get going!. The steep rock faces require careful footwork to negotiate pegs, ladders, tree trunks and rocks. You will soon find yourself under the spell of this fascinating sport.
