Beautiful landscapes, abundance of nature, clean air, forests, the proximity of the Solina Lagoon are just a few of the advantages that prove the attractiveness of the area for tourists. National Park constitutes the biggest form of nature protection in Poland. It covers a protected area distinctive for special scientific, natural, cultural and educational values. The national park protects the entire nature and specific landscape features present in its area. The primary goal of a national park is to study and preserve the unity of natural systems of the area, as well as to restore the disturbed or extinct elements of native nature. The main tasks of a national park are defined in the statutes of the park, issued by the Minister of Environmental Protection, Natural Resources and Forestry. The area of a national park must not be smaller that 1,000 ha. There are 22 national parks in Poland with total area about 300,000 ha, which cover in total roughly about 1 per cent of the country area.

Beside implementation of the main goal - nature conservation - the parks perform scientific, educational, didactic and tourist activities. The latter enables all interested people to experience the direct contact with unique nature. This privilege, however, implicates the obligation of a particular behavior in the area of a national park. There are about 2,000 km of nature trails in the national parks. Apart from the most common hiking, the areas of national parks are also accessible for skiing, mountain climbing and canoeing. Bicycle roads have also been delimited recently. Educational and didactic activity is carried out through preparation of "didactic trails". In museums of nature, new forms of environmental education activities are being developed and tested.

The situation on the lodging market becomes better and better. Many international hotel chains such as Forte, Holiday Inn, Marriott or Radisson have opened their hotels in Poland. Many hotels of Polish chains (Gromada, Orbis) have been restored and reopened. The number of private motels, build along main roads and in resort areas is still growing. Poland offers also a good possibilities for budget traveling. Many bungalows and private apartments are waiting to be rent. During the last few years there has been high growth in all kinds of accommodations, unfortunately most money are invested in luxury and expensive hotels. There is still insufficient number of small, inexpensive hotels, especially in Warsaw. Polish hotels undergone in recent years very serious modernization and today they are more or less of European standard, although there are still exceptions. The largest chain of hotels in Poland has Orbis. They give good prices and have often cheaper weekend fees. You will find their hotels in almost every city. Some of so called hotele pracownicze (worker’s dormitories) have been refurbished and are today good cheap hotels, usually filled with visitors from the East. You should not have problems to find a hotel with free rooms but remember, everything is booked in Poznan during fairs and in Zakopane or Szczyrk in the winter.

With 1100 PTSM (Polskie Towarzystwo Schronisk Mlodziezowych - Poland's Youth Hostel Association) hostels, Poland ranks as one of the most budget traveller friendly country in Europe. Some of these hostels are situated in school buildings and are open only during the summer. Priority is given to people under 26 with YHA membership card but there is no age limit. Except having common rooms they have sometimes double rooms as well. They are closed from 10 AM to 5 PM, but you may stay on a rainy day. You will pay some $5 for a bed in a common room. You will find also PTTK hostels (Domy Turysty) in Poland., especially in the mountains, where they serve mountain hikers, but also in the biggest cities and other tourist areas. The network of PTTK hostels is not as comprehensive as PTSM one and the prices are higher.
