The Traditional Production Of Salt

Along the Dragonja river at Sečovlje, as well as in Strunjan salt-pans were developed through centuries, which were exploited until the beginning of this century, in the very same way. Salt was harvested exclusively in closed production units, pools or the so-coled „stabilis“. Each production unit was separated into evaporation and crystallization basins connected by each other with the system of channels, dikes and drainage sluices. Each salt pool has its associated building, in which a salter and his family lived through the summer months.

Diving School: Sub-net

In one of the oldest and most fascinating coastal towns, characterized by its narrow streets and its mediaeval atmosphere, where fish was traded as early as in 1400, you can find our diving center. Just 11 yards off the coast lies the only Slovenian national marine preserve (Rt. Madona – Punta Piran). The diving center organizes courses with certificates of most important international diving schools, such as PADI, ANDI, CMAS, DAN, etc. Moreover, it offer a wide range of different activities, such as various types of diving with trained divers, diving on sinked ships in the Gulf of Triest, hiring of diving equipment and the possibility of buying diving equipment. The center offers you the most advanced diving equipment, so that also diving with nitrox is possible. At night, Piran turns into a town where you can have a lot of fun and taste the various typical dishes before or after the night dive.

The Slovenian sea is famous for its qality sardines, which often end up in fishermen`s nets in whole schools.Nowadays, fishery does not represent the core industry of Izola, although the old tradition has remained deeply rooted, and the town is still justifiably referred to as a fishing port. The scenes of the days gone by are especially brought back to life during the Fishermen`s Festival, an annual event filling nearly every corner with the inviting smell of grilled anchovies. The taste of summer, sea and salt is made even more authentic by a pinch of Mediterranean spices and drop of olive oil. The fishermens are timelessprotagonists stepping beyond the boundaries of a given moment, knowing exactly when there is a time to work and a time to rejoice.
